The Princess and the Frog

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0j7EactM9s

oh disney, what have you done now?  disney's first black princess, maddy, is a chambermaid for a white family who lives in the french quarter of new orleans in the 1920s.  maddy is "sassy", of course, like all black women in the world are, and there are also some voodoo practicing antagonists, a singing alligator, her mother is a maid too, and (i hate to spoil the ending for you) the prince is white.

thoughts?

OMG.

To be honest, I was good even with the sassy voice, the vaguely curvatious Disney female figure (how old IS she?), the barely there brown tint. I really was.

But the minstrel show firefly with a black New Orleans accent? WTF?

WTF?

wtf. :(

ok. so disney screened the movie with me twice. Once 2 years ago and then again about 9 months ago... A couple of things...

1. Her name has changed 5 times... her name is actually now Tiana.

2. Oprah is playing the fairy God Mother's voice I believe and the Goal is to have it on the Oprah show.

3. The prince originally was as Disney said to me a " Mulatto" he is now Creole. (Kismet... you can drop the research knowledge on that one)

4. Maddy/ Tiana originally lived on a plantation... Disney decided to change that... lol

5. There is a sambo looking no teeth having bug that gives her guidance...

6. The villain has Gold Teeth... I will say it again... The villain has Gold Teeth...

7. Originally they told the marketing company that they only wanted to market it on BET...

... i could go on... but i wont... but What I will say is as crazy as some of the stuff is... its really important that we go out and see this film... OR we need to make a HUGE and ORGANIZED fuss as to why we aren't ok with it... this is the first black princess film ever!!! Disney will determine whether or not Tiana becomes an official princess after the movie release. She has a year before she can move into the princess hall of fame... There are only 5 true princesses (Aurora, Ariel, Cinderella, Belle, and Jasmine)

so yeah... its wack... Ive seen it... but it wouldn't be the first wack princess movie we've seen... IE SLEEPING BEAUTY... the movie that Destroyed the female psyche...

ok...

I'm

exaggerating ...

slightly...
