Maven, did someone you know die in a fire to a cheesy serenade by a platinum haired, questionably queer, three hit wonder? Because otherwise I'm going to need some explanation....

(My 3 is gonna feel real salty if any of this is true...and it if is i will personally demote myself to 2....)

Kismet, I think this comment may be cause for demotion to a 2 even if it's not true.

Here's the back-story from my perspective. The Maven sees my g-chat status which is set to display my current itunes song. A random dru hill song pops up - not 5 steps though. The Maven IMs me "i am singing '5 Steps' now" and then proceeds to type the lyrics to me and says the video is getting posted on the blog. Youtube had disabled the embedding so she couldn't do it. I found it on another site and posted it just for her.

She'll have to explain why she has such a connection to this song though.

Crisis just about summed it but, but i have a deep abiding affinity to the melodrama and "cheese-factor" of late 90's early 2000's music videos.

People like R.kelly (Down low) and Dru Hill (5 steps, In my bed) paved the way for the videos of today that still tug on our hearts strings...(Beyonce - If i were a boy). They make us laugh, make us get teary eyed, make us say "oh hellz naw", and ultimately add another experiential level to modern music.

"5 Steps" was almost formative for me in that it encompassed all of the melodrama that i was feeling as a 14/15 year old adolescent in a 4 min montage...1) love of friends 2) nostalgia of childhood 3) a new found emphasis on romantic love 4) coping with loss (large and small)

...even in its most insipid moments!

Its an art, and not every artist has the creative vision in their camp to pull off the perfect story-line based music video (cuz as much as I LOVE J. Hudson, we all know that the spot light video was not worth the tape they recorded it on.)

so thats all. And yes Kis, you are a 2! lol (but we love you!

THE MAVEN -- IM DISTURBED BY THE FACT THAT YOU SAID 5 STEPS PAVED THE WAY FOR ANYTHING ....

don't be mad... it's true!!!

even though the lyrics make NO sense...the video is ridiculous, but you still walk away with the point... albeit very heavy handed...that they wanted you to feel loss...
